Frequently Asked Questions
I’m here to answer some of the questions I get
about my business or counseling services.
-
After reaching out to book and appointment with me - whether it be a consultation or an initial session, I will send instructions on next steps to the e-mail address you have provided.
During a consultation, I will briefly provide an overview of the way my business works, any fees, what is in my informed consent, what therapy with me can look like, and answer any additional questions you may have.
If we choose to move forward, I will follow up by sending necessary documents to be filled out before your initial counseling session.
During an initial session, we will review documents, go over details, and further discuss your concerns and expectations. We will go over what you are hoping to get from therapy, and some potential goals we can set together. -
I have a set rate of $99 for individual sessions as well as therapeutic play sessions.
-
Individual counseling sessions are 50 minutes, while therapeutic play sessions are around 40 minutes followed by about 10 minutes of clean up and review with parents or guardians.
-
I am not able to accept insurance at this time.
-
Yes, I currently offer a set amount of slots on a sliding scale on an as-needed basis.
I manage my sliding scale rates through Open Path, which is a psychotherapy collective that brings therapists together to help make mental health care more accessible.
My Open Path profile: https://openpathcollective.org/clinicians/brittany-whitehead/
Please visit and register at this website to qualify for my sliding scale rates. If you are unable to qualify and still find yourself or your child in need of a reduced fee, please reach out for my set discounted rate.
If my Open Path profile indicates I am not currently accepting Open Path clients, my sliding scale slots are currently full. If these slots are full, feel free to reach out and add your name and information to a wait list for reduced rates. -
Therapy is one of the most personal and transformative investments you can make—not just in your mental health, but in your growth, your relationships, and your sense of self. Choosing private pay means you're saying yes to a therapeutic experience that centers your unique needs, without the limitations that often come with insurance.
Here’s what makes it meaningful:
1) More privacy and control. With private pay, your therapy stays just that—yours. You don’t have to receive a mental health diagnosis or share personal information with an insurance company to justify your care. This creates a more confidential, protected space to do the work that matters to you.
2) A therapy experience that’s guided by you, not systems.
Insurance often dictates how many sessions you can have, what’s covered, and how therapy should unfold. Private pay allows us to build a process that fits you—one that honors your pace, your goals, and your story.
3) Freedom to work with a therapist who feels like the right fit.
Rather than being limited to in-network providers, private pay gives you the freedom to choose someone who truly resonates with you.
4) Depth, flexibility, and presence.
Whether we’re working through trauma, navigating parenting challenges, or gently tending to long-standing beliefs, private pay allows us to go deep—without the pressure to “check boxes.” We can explore EFT, narrative therapy, play-based work, or somatic practices as they feel helpful to you.
5) An investment in yourself that lasts.
Therapy isn’t a quick fix—it’s a journey. And the benefits of being truly seen, supported, and empowered ripple outward into every area of your life. Private pay therapy is an intentional choice to invest in your long-term well-being, resilience, and growth in a way that feels right to you.
